On Sunday, the Redskins cut veteran safety Vernon Fox, and two backup defensive linemen, end Dorian Smith and tackle Babatunde Oshinowo. Fox was was a casualty of strong performances by two rookie safeties, Kereem Moore and Chris Horton.
Then on Monday, the Redskins released linebacker Matt Sinclair and wide receiver Burl Toler. Boler was a victim of the numbers game. With rookie wide outs Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly getting healthy, the Redskins had too many receivers on the roster. Sinclair, a second-year player, was having a solid preseason, but he suffered a back injury last week.
The Redskins, like every other team in the NFL, had to reach the the 75 player maximum by tomorrow and must reach the 53 man roster limit on Saturday, August 30th.
The team also received good news on defensive end Jason Taylor on Sunday. An MRI revealed no ligament damage and Taylor could be sidelined as little as 10 days, making it possible that he will be able to play against the New York Giants on Thursday, September 4th.
